Adrian Walker is a Brighton UK based artist who for the past two decades has worked exclusively in oil.
The artist describes a compelling and absorbing process, rooted in a search for mystery, movement, warmth, balance. An emotional response, whether dramatic or perhaps even slightly intangible, is perennially asked of the viewer. He firmly espouses the notion that a painting should make you feel something before you can begin to put the feeling into words. Walker describes his working process as:
“labour intensive, in turn frenetic and intensely physical and quite suddenly calm and reflective. Countless paths to be explored, ideas to be coaxed and sometimes brutally dismissed from the canvas. The paint that is left on the canvas should have earned its right to be there.”
Much of the work is drawn deeply from memory, sometimes long archived memories where the details may have become sketchy but the sense of the memory remains beacon bright. There is also a long held fascination with Norse Legend, enlivened by travels within the Arctic circle, which has been the focus of much of the work of recent years.
Walker has enjoyed a rapidly growing profile, notable clients including Geri Haliwell and Heather Mills. A sizeable commission for Associated Newspapers (now DMG Media) coupled with solo exhibitions including Ogilvy and Mather and London’s Hempel Hotel have served to boost the artist’s growing reputation.
