Denis Pannett was born in 1939 and was introduced to art by his mother, Juliet Pannett MBE, a professional portrait painter who painted 2 portraits of HM The Queen and 9 prime ministers and who has 21 portraits in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery.

In 1975 he was elected a member of the Guild of Aviation Artists and in 1979 was made an honorary freeman of the Painter Stainers Company. In 1985 he was invited to become a member of the Wapping Group of Artists and from 2009 - 2012 was their president.
